Despite missing out on highly coveted Japanese pitching prospect Yu Darvish, for the first time in several years, the Blue Jays head into spring training optimistic that a return to the MLB playoff picture may be in store forToronto fans 2012.

With a powerful offence led by AL Home Run King, Jose Bautista, Adam Lind, and a full season of hot Canadian prospect 3rd baseman Brett Lawrie, there is little doubt about scoring runs.

Starting pitching remains an area that needs improvement, as beyond staff ace Ricky Romero, #2 Brendan Morrow and #3 Brett Cecil, the 4th and 5th SP slots are still TBD.

The bullpen should be better, bolstered by the acquisition of projected closer Sergio Santos, but an 8th inning set-up man or #2 closer is still required.

Another factor improving the Blue Jays' playoff chances is the expanded playoff format that is expected to come into play this season, the Jay have a legitimate chance to sneak into the playoffs either by way of one of the two wildcards or, if everything goes their way, as American League East division champions.

And what's old is new again, as the Jays have put the Blue back in Blue Jays by returning to a uniform that harkens back to the glory days of the 80's and 90's.

May 14th & 15th - Tampa Bay Rays (Divisional Rival!)
May 16th & 17th - New York Yankees (the Yankees!)
May 18th - 20th - New York Mets (Interleague play)
May 28th - 30th - Baltimore Orioles (Divisional Rival!)
June 1st - 3rd - Boston Red Sox (Divisional Rival)
June 11th - 13th - Washington Nationals (Interleague play vs the former Montreal Expos)
June 15th - 17th - Philadelphia Phillies (Interleague play and the 2nd return of Doc Halliday)
August 10th - 12th - New York Yankees (Divisional Rivals!)
August 17th - 19th - Texas Rangers (AL Champions!)
August 30th - September 1st - Tampa Bay Rays (Divisional Rivals!)
September 3rd - 5th - Baltimore Orioles (Divisional Rival!)
September 14th - 16th - Boston Red Sox (Divisional Rival!)
September 27th - 30th - New York Yankees (Divisional Rivals!)
